أجرت السفارة البريطانية في اليمن تواصلاً مباشراً مع رئيس تحرير صحيفة عدن الغد فتحي بن لزرق، عبر مستشارها السياسي والإعلامي Russ McPartland، الذي عبّر عن تضامن السفارة مع الصحيفة، مؤكداً موقف بلاده الثابت في دعم حرية الصحافة وسيادة القانون.
وخلال التواصل، أشاد McPartland بالتغطيات الصحفية التي تقوم بها الصحيفة، مؤكداً أن ما تعرضت له عدن الغد ورئيس تحريرها يعد أمراً خاطئاً ولا يمكن القبول به. وأوضح أنه سينقل هذه القضية إلى السفيرة البريطانية في اجتماعاتها، مشيراً إلى استعداد السفارة لتقديم توضيحات أو تصريحات رسمية تعكس دعمها لحرية الإعلام.
من جانبه، أوضح فتحي بن لزرق أن تدخل السفارة البريطانية يعكس موقفاً مبدئياً يحظى بالتقدير، مؤكداً أن أي بيان علني أو حتى تغريدة من السفارة من شأنها أن تُحدث فارقاً ملموساً وتبعث برسالة قوية للسلطات بضرورة احترام حرية الصحافة ووقف الانتهاكات.
ويأتي هذا الموقف البريطاني في وقت تتزايد فيه المخاوف بشأن أوضاع الصحافة في اليمن، وسط دعوات محلية ودولية لضمان بيئة آمنة للصحفيين والمؤسسات الإعلامية بعيداً عن الضغوط والملاحقات.
The British Embassy Communicates with Aden Al-Ghad Newspaper and Affirms Its Support for Press Freedom
The British Embassy in Yemen held direct communication with the Editor-in-Chief of Aden Al-Ghad newspaper, Fathi bin Lazrq, through its Political and Media Adviser, Russ McPartland, who expressed the embassy’s solidarity with the newspaper and reaffirmed his country’s firm stance in support of press freedom and the rule of law.
During the communication, McPartland praised the journalistic coverage carried out by the newspaper, stressing that what happened to Aden Al-Ghad and its Editor-in-Chief was wrong and unacceptable. He explained that he would raise the issue with the British Ambassador in her meetings, pointing out the embassy’s readiness to provide clarifications or official statements that reflect its support for media freedom.
For his part, Fathi bin Lazrq noted that the intervention of the British Embassy reflects a principled position worthy of appreciation, emphasizing that such actions could make a tangible difference and send a strong message to the authorities on the necessity of respecting press freedom and halting violations.
This British stance comes at a time when concerns are growing over the state of journalism in Yemen, amid local and international calls to ensure a safe environment for journalists and media institutions, away from pressures and harassment.
